Here's a gift-giving guide from the Department of Health to keep the Christmas spirit alive while preventing the spread of COVID-19.
Instead of wine and cheese, the DOH recommended giving pandemic essentials such as face masks and face shields.
“When planning for the holiday gift-giving, think of ligtas na regalo - which gifts can make them safe. One thing we recommend is face masks which may serve as a constant reminder to the recipient to wear one,” Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said in a statement Thursday.
Filipinos can also opt for a fruit basket or exercise equipment instead of the usual salty and sweet treats as gifts. Do-it-yourself gifts are also encouraged to limit in-store shopping.
"Such gifts make it more personal and also keep you from going to crowded places, thus reducing the risk of acquiring or transmitting the virus," Duque said.
