President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed his fraternity brother Antonio Kho as the newest member of the Supreme Court, Malacañang said Wednesday, further bolstering his handpicked members in the tribunal less than five months before he leaves office.
Kho, who retired from the Commission on Elections earlier this month, will take the seat left by retired Associate Justice Rosmari Carandang.
"We wish Associate Justice Kho success in the Supreme Court, and we are confident that he will continue to dispense justice to every man, woman and child with integrity, impartiality and fairness," Cabinet Sec. Karlo Nograles said in a statement.
Kho is the 12th appointee of Duterte out of the 15 current magistrates of the Supreme Court.
Before serving as a commissioner in the Comelec, Kho was an undersecretary of the Department of Justice.
Duterte and Kho both studied law at San Beda University, where they were both members of the Lex Talionis fraternity.
