The viral RC Cola ad that left millions of Filipinos scratching their skulls for meaning left American television host Ellen DeGeneres confused, too.
The work of GIGIL ad agency was featured in a segment called "Ellen & tWitch Attempt to Guess What’s Next in These Unpredictable Commercials."
"I mean, what is that commercial? What's it for? Do we know?," DeGeneres asked after she and in-house DJ, Stephen “tWitch” Boss, tried predicting the ending.
Later it was revealed they both had chosen the wrong answers (Degeneres chose (c) which predicted the mother would take off the scarf and parachute out the window and tWitch picked (a) anticipating the mother would sing a note and shatter the glass).
The correct answer being (b) that said the mother would take off her head and pour soda into the cups baffled the two even more as they watched.
"I was wondering how they were gonna drink it and that's how," DeGeneres just said towards the end, appearing confused and in disbelief over the commercial.
"Well if you haven't started drinking already, then now is the time," she said in jest.
The commercial called "Family" is part of the soda brand's comeback attempt by courting Filipino Gen Zs aggressively. When asked regarding the meaning behind their ads, creators just said: basta lang (Filipino for "just because").
