Former police chief Guillermo Eleazar is running for senator under the slate of Sen. Panfilo Lacson, the lawmaker said on Saturday.
Eleazar, who retired from police service on his 56th birthday on Saturday, is substituting for Paolo "Powee" Capino, who withdrew his candidacy on Friday.
If he wins, Eleazar will be the third ex-PNP chief to be elected to the Senate after Lacson and Sen. Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa.
"Eleazar’s addition to the Partido Reporma senatorial slate reinforces the Lacson-Sotto campaign’s edge in integrity, experience and courage in public service," Lacson said.
Lacson said he expects Eleazar to "bring his toughness on crime and police abuse to the Senate with respect to legislation relevant to peace and order."
Lacson is running for president under Partido Reporma, whom he also chairs.
Apart from Eleazar, also running for senator under the Lacson-Sotto tandem are Monsour Del Rosario and Minguita Padilla.
