Face shields will be required in all forms of public transportation from Aug. 15, the Department of Transportation said in a memorandum released Wednesday. The face shields will be on top of face masks. The Philippines is addressing fast-rising COVID-19 infections that forced the reimposition of strict quarantines in Metro Manila and nearby provinces until Aug. 18.
The face shield requirement will be imposed in areas where public transportation is allowed. Trains, buses, taxis, jeeps and ride-share cars are currently prohibited in the National Capital Region, Bulacan, Rizal and Quezon, currently under Modified General Community Quarantine. They are allowed in GCQ or General Community Quarantine areas.
Public transportation is allowed at limited capacity and with strict rules in GCQ or general community quarantine areas.
For passengers of seacraft, a no face shield, no ride policy will be in place on Aug. 7, the DOTr said.
