The Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday warned consumers against the purchase and use of Lucas Papaw Ointment due to lack of certification.
According to the FDA, the ointment lacked a Certificate of Product Notification, making its manufacture, importation, sale, distribution, and use prohibited.
"Dahil dito, hindi masisiguro ng ahensya ang kalidad, kaligtasan, at bisa nito. Samakatuwid, ang paggamit ng nasabing mga iligal na produkto ay maaaring magdulot ng panganib sa kalusugan," the FDA said in an advisory.
Australia-manufactured Lucas Papaw Ointment is commonly used as a local topical application for burns, rashes, chaffing, and eczema.
The FDA warned businesses not to distribute or sell the product.
Local government units were also told to monitor their areas of jurisdiction for potential sale or distribution of the product.
