A state funeral will be held to honor the late former President Fidel V. Ramos, who died at the age of 94 due to complications from COVID-19, Malacañang said Wednesday.

"The state funeral is a right of the family of the deceased president. So yes, he will be accorded a state funeral with full military honors," Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles said in a press conference.
While there are no other details yet on the state funeral, Cruz-Angeles said it is scheduled on Tuesday, Aug. 9.
President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. earlier expressed his condolences to the family of Ramos, whom he said "lived a full life as a military officer and public servant."
"We did not only lose a good leader but also a member of the family.... The legacy of his presidency will always be cherished and will be forever enshrined in the hearts of our grateful nation," he added.
Ramos played a vital role in 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution after he defected from the administration of Marcos' father, former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr.
The civilian uprising also forced Marcos Sr. and his family to leave Malacañang, giving way for former President Corazon Aquino's rise to the presidency.
