May Parsons, a Filipina nurse, administered the first ever COVID-19 vaccination in the UK, Britain's envoy to the Philippines said Tuesday, in a testament to the global reach of Filipino frontliners.
Parsons vaccinated 90-year-old Margaret Keenan in full view of TV cameras in the UK using a Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine. The UK is among the first countries in the world to roll out a vaccination program.
"A fantastic moment! And great to see that the vaccine is administered by Nurse May Parsons from the Philippines - one of the many thousands of Filipino healthcare workers making such an enormous contribution to the #NHS," Ambassador Daniel Pruce said.

The Philippines is targeting a vaccine rollout by the end of the first quarter of 2021 at the earliest, Health Sec. Francisco Duque III said.
Tycoons have placed an order for the initial 2.6 million doses of an Astra Zeneca vaccine. The government plans to innoculate at the onset 60 million of the country's 100 million people.
