Several batches of Haagen-Dasz vanilla ice cream have been voluntarily recalled due to possible ethylene oxide contamination, the Food and Drug Administration said Friday.
Tubs of Haagen-Dazs Vanilla 473mL and 100mL were pulled out by its Philippine distributor after an import test in Taiwan showed two batches of the ice cream have traces of ethylene oxide.
Ethylene oxide is used as a food additive in flavoring concentrates and oils, and for food sterilization. It is also the reason why several Lucky Me! noodles and pancit canton were recalled in Ireland, France, and Malta, with Lucky Me! Philippines saying it does not add the chemical into their products.
