(UPDATE) Nine of the 10 presidential candidates have confirmed their attendance in the debates organized by the Comelec as part of its voter information activities for the May 9 elections, its spokesperson said Sunday.
All presidential candidates expect for Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. will be taking part in the "Pilipinas Debates 2022: The Turning Point", a list posted by Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez on Twitter showed.
The first presidential debate is set to take place on March 19 at Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila in Pasay City, with a second presidential debate happening on April 3. A vice presidential debate is also scheduled on March 20.
Jimenez previously said that all 10 presidential candidates "signified the commitment to attend the first debate."
Marcos, however, will not be attending the debate set for March 19, his spokesperson Vic Rodriguez said, to honor his commitment to his supporters that he will be on the field that day. The son of the late dictator earlier said he would join debates only if his schedule permits.
Apart from the main debates, a presidential and vice presidential town hall debate, where the audience can ask questions directly to the candidates, are also scheduled on April 24 and 23, respectively.
