Vice presidential candidate Lito Atienza said Friday he would support same-sex marriage only if men can bear children, bolstering his conservative stand on the issue.
The running mate of presidential candidate Manny Pacquiao said marriage is mean for reproduction. As Buhay party-list representative in Congress, Atienza had opposed both the Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and Gender Expression Equality or SOGIE Bill and the Reproductive Health Law.
"'Pag 'yung lalaki ay nagdadalang tao na at nanganganak, magbabago ako ng aking pananaw," he told TeleRadyo.
"Ibig sabihin nun, nagbago na ang natural law kasi 'yung babae at lalaki lang ang makakabuo ng sanggol, natural law 'yun e. 'Di puwedeng lalaki sa lalaki, babae sa babae. Hindi puwede 'yung babae sa hayop o lalaki sa hayop, therefore we must follow natural law. It's also following our own faith, 'yung ating pangaral ng simbahan," said Atienza, a devout Catholic.

Pacquiao recently sought to temper the years-long fallout from his describing people as "worse than animals", telling vlogger Toni Gonzaga that he did not mean to condemn the LGBTQIA+ community.
Atienza said tht despite his opposition to same-sex marriage, he respects LGBTQIA+ rights.
"I respect the rights of any citizen to define his own sexuality pero I will always be against the proposed laws through legislation of forming our thinking into the thinking of some people, not necessarily the majority."
