The capital city of Manila on Thursday placed select areas under strict lockdown to contain a spike in COVID-19 infections threatening the recovery of the economy.
Select villages have been placed under a four-day lockdown with police manning entry and exit points.
One village under a localized lockdown for instance is Barangay 351 Zone 35 in Sta. Cruz is guarded by police forces. Individuals entering and leaving the premises are asked to present valid IDs.
The move comes as Metro Manila sees a spike in COVID-19 infections, reporting over 2,000 new cases daily for the past few days.

Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno on Thursday said the city government started providing food supplies to villages affected by the localized lockdowns.
"Ito po ay parte ng ating layunin na patuloy na bigyan ng makakakain ang bawat pamilyang Manilenyo sa kabila ng ating pagpapatupad ng lockdown," he said in a tweet.
Earlier this week, Health Sec. Francisco Duque III said Metro Manila mayors have been reminded to strictly implement COVID-19 protocols to contain the spike in infections.
