Authorities are now accepting online applications for public utility drivers who want to avail of incentives to help them get back on the road and break free from the boundary system. Drivers simply need to hit up this Google Forms link.
Under the Service Contracting scheme of the Department of Transportation, drivers will be compensated based on operating hours and distance traveled. They will also be incentivized or penalized depending on performance. Under the boundary system, they earn only when they exceed a set amount by their operator.
With passengers per trip hardly a concern under service contracting, the general community quarantine can serve as a trial phase until all jeepneys are allowed to operate again and the system becomes permanent, as explained by urban planner Benjie de la Peña in a previous podcast.
