Manila's Vaccine Storage Facility Ready With 12 Freezers

Operations to start on Valentine's Day.

Manila City's COVID-19 vaccine storage facility is ready to operate on Feb. 14 with a total of 12 freezer units, the city's public information office said Tuesday.

Three units—intended for Pfizer jabs—completed the freezer count at the Sta. Ana Hospital where the vaccine storage facility is located.

"Gawin natin ang lahat para maproteksyunan ang bakuna. That is a reflection of every life that we can protect. May buhay na nakasalalay sa bawat bakunang hawak natin,"  Mayor Isko Moreno told hospital officials.

Sta. Ana hospital director Dr. Grace Padilla said the hospital is ready to receive COVID-19 vaccines from different brands. The facility is equipped with 11 CCTV cameras working 24/7 and six data loggers to monitor the temperature of each unit, she said.

In case of power interruption, a generator is available.

"Once the vaccines are there, we will not stop—Monday to Sunday, hindi tayo hihinto. Hihinto lang tayo kapag tapos na. This is saving lives, protecting lives, yun ang goal," Moreno said.

According to Sta. Ana Hospital's Biomedical Specialist Walter Rigonan, the 12 vaccine freezers can store the following:

  • 2 units of -10 to -25 freezer: 5,200 vials each
  • 2 units of -10 to -30 freezer: 17,2000 vials each
  • 3 units of -70 freezer: 35,000 vials each
  • 5 units of 2-8 degrees freezer: 8,200 vials each
