All cemeteries in the city of Manila will be temporarily closed for Undas 2021, Mayor Isko Moreno said Wednesday.
According to Executive Order No. 33, public and private memorial parks, cemeteries, and columbaries will be closed to the public from Oct. 29 to Nov. 3.
This includes the Manila North Cemetery, Manila South Cemetery, and Manila Muslim Cemetery. "Only interment and cremation services for non-COVID 19 cases shall be allowed subject to the strict observance of minimum public health standards and social distancing," the order said.
Back in 2020, Metro Manila mayors agreed to temporarily close cemeteries to prevent crowding as the annual visit to honor loved ones also serves as a reunion for Filipino families.
"The Directors of the Manila Cemeteries, with the assistance of the Manila Police District, the Manila Health Department, the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, and the Department of Public Services are directed to ensure compliance and implementation of this Order," the order said.
Failure to comply with the order will lead to revocation of business permits.
