Presidential candidate Bongbong Marcos' party on Friday asked the Comelec to investigate one of its commissioners who told the press that she voted to disqualify him, even before the official ruling is released.
Commissioner Rowena Guanzon's actions put a "cloud of suspicion" on her two other colleagues in the First Division, Partido Federal ng Pilipinas said. The three members are due to vote on several petitions to disqualify the son of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr.
Guanzon revealed her vote to GMA News late Thursday saying she suspected that outside pressure was behind the delay in the release of the ponencia or written decision. She is due to retire next week.
Marcos Jr.'s party said Guanzon's actions violated the code of conduct for justices.
Guanzon, in a tweet, questioned whether the move was ordered by Marcos Jr.
"Ang mga Marcos hindi vindictive. Bakit ang Partido ni BBM vindictive? Utos ba ni BBM yan?" she said in a tweet.
She also challenged the general counsel of Marcos Jr.'s party, lawyer George Briones to a debate on television.
The name of Bongbong Marcos has made it to the official ballot printing even as Comelec has yet to resolve several petitions to stop his candidacy.
