The Philippines, preparing to pilot in-person classes after two years of distance learning, on Wednesday recorded 9,868 more COVID-19 infections.
Active cases now stand at 112,807. There were 133 new recoveries and zero deaths reported for the second day in a row.
Total cumulative cases since the pandemic began is now at 2,622,917, of which 2,471,282have recovered and 38,828 died.
According to the Department of Health, COVIDKaya has been experiencing system errors causing lower numbers and delays in reporting numbers for the case bulletins. Additional deaths or edits are released in separate advisories.
Prior to the system errors, the case bulletin was released at 4 p.m. daily.
Alert Level 4 with eased restrictions is expected to last until Oct. 15. Eased restrictions allow more movement for vaccinated individuals to help businesses recover. Granular lockdowns will still be implemented in barangays or streets, depending on the city mayor's orders.
Vaccinations for those aged 12 to 17 is eyed to start on Oct. 15. Those with comorbidities will receive the vaccine first. Only Pfizer and Moderna have been cleared for use on minors.
According to the Department of Education's timeline, the pilot in-person classes will start on Nov. 15 and will continue through December and will resume in January after the Christmas break until Jan. 31, 2022. Assessment of the initial run will take place from Nov. 15 to Dec. 22 as the classes are ongoing.
