Pampanga's San Fernando City, the Christmas capital of the Philippines, has begun its holiday countdown at Robinsons Starmills just a hundred days away from its Giant Lantern Festical.
The mall's lobby is lit up with a giant Christmas Tree and Lantern Ensemble ahead of the annual Giant Lantern Festival nightly display scheduled to open at 6 p.m. from Dec. 16 to 23, Dec. 25 to 30 for 2021 and Jan. 1 to 2, 2022.
Both local and foreign tourists flock to San Fernando's annual giant lantern festival, but due to pandemic restrictions, last year's celebration saw a limited crowd with face masks and shields. The same health standards will be applied this year to keep viewers safe from the virus.
This year’s participating barangays are Sto. Niño, San Juan, San Nicolas, Sta. Lucia, Bulaon, Telebastagan, and Calulut.
For those looking to witness the lanterns in person, onsite registration is from Dec. 16, 2021 to Jan. 2, 2022. Pre-registration is required as QR codes will be assigned to each vehicle for contactless drive-in and parking slots.
