The Philippines on Saturday received two million more doses of AstraZeneca jabs through vaccine-sharing facility COVAX as the country seeks to vaccinate 50 million Filipinos by the end of the year.
This is the single biggest delivery of COVID jabs the country has received so far, bringing total vaccine supply to 7.57 million doses which includes government procurements, and donations from the Chinese government. Earlier this year, the counry got its first shipment of AstraZeneca vaccines with 525,600 doses, also from the COVAX facility.
The fresh AstraZeneca jabs arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 via a Singapore Airlines flight before at 12:49 p.m., which was received by Health Sec. Francisco Duque III, COVID-19 vaccine czar Sec. Carlito Galvez Jr., and testing czar Sec. Vince Dizon, according to the National Task Force on COVID-19 response.
The Philippines has so far vaccinated healthcare workers, senior citizens, individuals with co-morbidities, with workers in other essential industries to follow.
