PH Tallies 3,117 New COVID Cases as Global Death Toll Passes 5 Million

The Philippines on Monday tallied 3,117 new COVID-19 cases as the global death toll from the pandemic crossed the five million-mark.

The day's total brought the total active cases to 43,185. The Department of Health also reported 104 deaths and 5,124 recoveries.

Since the pandemic began in March 2020, the Philippines has a cumulative total of 2,790,375 cases, 43,276 deaths and 2,703,914 recoveries.

Cemeteries across the country are closed until Tuesday to prevent crowding in cemeteries. For the second straight year, millions in the predominantly Catholic Southeast Asian nation marked All Saints and All Souls Day with virtual masses.

Authorities have kept the country's pandemic epicenter, Metro Manila, Alert Level 3, the third highest under the new five-step quarantine system until mid-November.
