A total of 11,085 new COVID-19 infections were recorded on Wednesday as high-risk areas in the country await a decision on whether the ECQ or lockdown will be extended.

Active cases are now at 105,151, while the cumulative total since the pandemic is at 1,776,495.

With 11,628 recoveries and 161 deaths recorded Wednesday, totals now stand at 1,640,721 and 30,623 respectively.

Hospital workers have resigned as COVID wards fill up again, while those at the job are demanding better working conditions, more than a year into the pandemic. All eyes are on the DOH which is under fire for alleged deficiencies in the handling of P67.3 billion in pandemic funds, according to the Commission on Audit.

The ECQ in Metro Manila and other high-risk areas is expected to last until Aug. 20. Authorities are yet to decide on a possible extension.
