Philippines Extends Travel Ban due to New Virus Variant

The Philippines is extending its travel ban on countries with the new COVID variant until Jan. 31, Malacañang said Friday, after the country confirmed its first case of the disease.

The initial travel ban of the Philippines expires on Friday, Jan. 15.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque on Friday said the travel ban would also be expanded to include Hungary, and the United Arab Emirates from Jan. 17-31.

  • Denmark
  • Ireland

  • The Netherlands
  • The People’s Republic of China, including Hong Kong Special Administrative Region
  •  Switzerland
  • France
  • Germany
  •  Iceland
  •  Italy
  • Lebanon
  •  Singapore
  •  Sweden
  • South Korea
  •  South Africa
  • Canada
  •  Spain
  •  United States of America
  •  Portugal
  •  India
  •  Finland
  •  Norway

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque also reminded airlines against allowing the boarding of passengers from countries included in the travel ban.

"The IATF, in coordination with other agencies, may issue implementing guidelines on the exemptions to these entry restrictions," Roque said.
