The Philippines on Sunday received additional 326,400 doses of Moderna COVID-19 vaccine as the government continues its vaccination efforts despite stricter quarantine classifications to curb the spread of the more contagious Delta coronavirus variant.
Of the procured 326,400 Moderna doses, 224,400 will be allocated for the Philippine government while the remaining 102,000 vials will be for the International Container Terminal Services, Inc., said vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr.
The Moderna vaccine boasts a 95% efficacy rate, with more doses expected to arrive later in the year.
The country is working to expedite the vaccination of more Filipinos against the more transmissible Delta variant, and to meet the goal of 50 million inoculated individuals by the end of 2021.
Galvez said 24 million COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered so far and 11.2 million Filipinos have been fully vaccinated against the disease, representing 15.88% of the target eligible population or 10.13% of the entire Philippine population.
