Sen. Panfilo Lacson on Monday said he might consider changing his campaign slogan to "We Have a Leader" after he resigned as chairperson of the party of former Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez, who decided to support Vice President Leni Robredo's presidential bid.

The 73-year-old senator has been running for president under the banner "We Need a Leader", which Alvarez, the president of Partido Reporma, coined as he initially campaigned for Lacson for the May 9 elections.

"It was Speaker Alvarez who went around as early as two years ago, he started moving around, with an understanding or at least as far as both of us are concerned, na para sa akin yun," Lacson told reporters in an interview, referring to the campaign slogan.

"Now, kung hindi na para sa akin yun, since siya naman ang unang nag-concoct ng phrase na 'We Need a Leader', then probably I might consider changing or tweaking it. We're going to adopt probably something like 'We Have a Leader,'" he added.

The senator did not elaborate why he is considering “We Have a Leader”, except to say that it sounds better than his current campaign slogan.

Lacson said he was now running for president as an independent candidate after he stepped down as chairman of Partido Reporma as the party's leaders decided to support another presidential candidate, who turned out to be Robredo.

Alvarez cited the momentum that's building for Robredo's campaign as the reason for shifting alliance.

Asked if he would still change his mind about resigning from the party, Lacson said: "Hindi. Hindi ako ganun."

"Hindi ako nagso-solicit talaga ng tulong. Kapag umayaw, that's it, umayaw. Then ganun pa rin, walang pagbabago, choice niya yun kasi demokrasya tayo," he added.
