The Department of Transportation on Friday unveiled the PNR Clark Phase 1’s first train set on the tracks in Valenzuela City.
The 160-meter train set consists of eight cars and is the longest electric multiple unit to date in the Philippines. Each train set is expected to serve 2,228 passengers.

A total of 13 train sets were ordered from Japan Transport Engineering Company and Sumitomo Corp., the second of which is expected to arrive in the second quarter of 2022, with the rest scheduled for delivery within the year.
The 37.9-kilometer railway line has 10 stations running between Tutuban, Manila and Malolos, Bulacan. Once operational, travel time will be cut to 35 minutes from the usual 1 hour and 30 minutes and is expected to service over 300,000 passengers daily.
PNR Clark Phase 1 is half of the North-South Commuter Railway or NSCR Project under the Build, Build, Build program. PNR Clark Phase 2, which stands at a completion rate of 35.78%, is seen to reduce travel time between Malolos, Bulacan, and Clark, Pampanga to just 30 to 35 minutes from the usual two hours.
The NSCR will also feature the country’s first ever Airport Railway Express Service, connecting Makati City to the Clark International Airport in just 55 minutes compared to the current 2 to 3-hour travel time.
