Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte said Monday she tested positive again for COVID-19, eight months since she first dealt with an asymptomatic infection.
Belmonte said this time, she was experiencing mild symptoms and would continue to work while in a quarantine facility in the city. Full contact-tracing measures are currently being done by the city's health officials to track anyone she has had contact with.
The Quezon City mayor said her case served as a reminder that the threat of the virus remains, even for those who recovered from it.
On Monday, the Philippines marked another grim milestone as it reverted Greater Manila back to ECQ with a record-high 10,016 new COVID cases in a single day.
