Meat vendors who are reeling from price caps imposed by the government no longer have to pay rental fees in Quezon City public markets, Mayor Joy Belmonte said Tuesday.
Some meat vendors left their market stalls empty at the start of the week to protest the price ceilings imposed by Malacañang on pork and chicken.
“We have decided to waive their rental fees to help them cope with the current crisis, and we enjoin our private markets to do the same,” Belmonte said.
President Rodrigo Duterte earlier this month issued an executive order imposing the following price caps as household budgets struggled with the rising prices of meat products:
- P270/kg for kasim and pigue
- P300/kg for liempo
- P160/kg for a dressed chicken

Belmonte said she instructed the city's Market Development and Administration Department to coordinate with market vendors on other forms of assistance the local government could offer.
She assured Quezon City residents that the price caps would be implemented properly.
“I-imbestigahan natin ang mga retailer na mag-o-overprice ng mga produktong ito at yung suppliers nila,” she said.
