The wet season has started in the Philippines. Weather bureau PAGASA called it officially on Friday as it recorded widespread rains in the last few days.
The rains signal that the Habagat or Southwest Monsoon now blows over the archipelago, said PAGASA forecaster Aldczar Aurelio. Such winds are associated with rains.
"The passage of Tropical Storm Dante and the occurrence of widespread rainfall monitored by PAGASA in the last five days for areas under Type I climate confirm the onset of the rainy season," it said.
Intermittent rains is forecast to affect Metro Manila and the western section of the Philippines.
Tropical Storm Dante (Choi-Wan) also re-entered waters within the Philippine Area of Responsibility though it is unlikely to hit land. The storm killed at least six people this week due to floods and landslides.
PAGASA is expecting one to three more storms to enter the Philippines this June.
