Congressman-elect Ferdinand Alexander "Sandro" Marcos said Monday he would bring pride to his constituents in Ilocos Norte as he took his oath of office as representative of the province's first district --- the first from his family to do so.

In his inaugural address, the son of President-elect Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. rallied his constituents to help him address local and national problems, including the rising prices of fuel and basic commodities.

"Despite this tall order, I promise all of you here, to all my kailians, that as your first district representative, I will bring pride to Ilocos Norte within the House of Representatives," Sandro said.

Sandro defeated incumbent Rep. Ria Fariñas, daughter of former House Majority Leader Rodolfo Fariñas, the patriarch of another political clan in the province.

He took his oath before Edwin Vea, barangay captain of Pasngal in Bacarra town, witnessed by his aunt, Sen. Imee Marcos. His father and mother, Liza Marcos, were not present in the ceremony as they were preparing for the June 30 presidential inauguration.

Sandro said he was very nervous the night before the May 9 elections, but this turned into joy and excitement after he garnered over 100,000 votes come election day.

Among other programs, Sandro committed to open up employment opportunities to his constituents and initiate infrastructure projects in the district. He also called on his people to translate his father's campaign message of unity into action.

He recalled his previous conversation with his father, who told him that when their family was forced into exile in Hawaii at the end of his grandfather's presidency, the Ilocanos were the only ones that helped them.

"Kaya ang sinasabi ko ngayon, lahat kayo rito ay naging kasama namin sa kahirapan. Dapat na dapat magkasama rin tayo sa tagumpay," Sandro told his constituents.

"It makes me so so happy to say that I am here, Congressman-elect Ferdinand Alexander Marcos, not just ready to serve, but now at your service," he added.
