Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio said Wednesday she accepted the offer to serve as chairman of former Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's party Lakas-CMD, which is carrying her vice president in 2022.
"I am honored to accept the chairmanship of Lakas-CMD," Duterte-Carpio said in response to the offer made by Sen. Bong Revilla, the party's incumbent chairman.
"Together with the party, I look forward to waging a successful campaign for Uniteam BBM-Sara, with the invaluable support of our fellow Filipinos," she added.
Duterte-Carpio accepted the chairmanship at Lakas-CMD less than a week after she formally joined the party. She earlier substituted for the party's original vice presidential bet Lyle Uy to become the party's standard bearer.
The Davao City mayor was supposed to seek reelection, but she decided to vie for the vice presidency instead as a middle ground with her supporters who have been pushing her to run for a national post.
