Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio on Monday warned Vice President Leni Robredo from making comments about the spike in COVID-19 cases in the Mindanao urban hub after the latter expressed concern over it
The eldest daughter of President Rodrigo Duterte said Robredo "should refrain from giving advice if she knows nothing about what is happening on the ground."
"This has been the hallmark of her term as VP, where she puts forth comments on matters and affairs she lacks understanding and knowledge on and does not offer anything helpful to solve a problem," Duterte-Carpio said in a statement.
Duterte-Carpio's remarks came a day after Robredo was quoted in a Manila Bulletin report that Davao City could learn from Cebu City's COVID-19 containment strategy.
Duterte-Carpio accused the opposition head of engaging in politicking.
"The VP should avoid involving the COVID-19 surge in Davao City in her attempt at politicking. There will be a proper time to attack my performance as an LCE (local chief executive) in this pandemic if she dares to run for President," Duterte-Carpio said.
The two officials have both been linked to possible presidential bids for 2022 with Duterte-Carpio listed among her father's "options" for a successor while Robredo is among the leading choices for the opposition coalition 1Sambayan.
