Vice President Leni Robredo's presidential campaign has received the endorsement of some 100 leaders in the academe, including former heads of the Department of Education and the Commission on Higher Education, who cited her ability to lift the sector from the pandemic.

The signatories include former DepEd secretaries Armin Luistro and Fe Hidalgo, former CHEd chairpersons Patricia Licuanan, Angel Alcala, and Ester Garcia, and former TESDA director general Edicio dela Torre.

"In our ongoing quest for a Philippines that is developed and progressive, Leni Robredo and Kiko Pangilinan know the importance of having quality education available to all and have demonstrated, time and again, that no Filipino will be left behind," said Ateneo de Manila President Fr. Roberto Yap SJ.

Robredo and her vice presidential running mate Pangilinan embody the virtues of a good educator -- honesty, integrity, accountability, grit, and hard work -- which can help uplift the "substandard and unequal quality" of education in the country, the group said.

A lawyer and economist, Robredo taught economics at the Universidad de Sta. Isabel in Naga City for 10 years before she entered politics in 2013. Pangilinan was also a professor at Ateneo de Manila University for six years, teaching constitutional, labor, and civil law.

“We believe that Robredo is the ‘Education President’ our country needs to address this learning crisis and attain quality education for all," said the group, referring to the disruption from the pandemic.

The educators said they were taking a stand against disinformation, particularly the historical revisionism that presents the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos' rule as the country's "golden years" when it is in fact by allegations of corruption and human rights abuse.
