Senate President Vicente Sotto III has filed a resolution commending 19-year-old Filipina golfer Yuka Saso for her historic win at the U.S. Women's Open.
Sotto said Saso's win "put the name of the Philippines on the map, and has absolutely given joy, pride, honor, and inspiration to the country and the Filipino people."
"This achievement should serve as a fitting reminder to all Filipinos that amid our struggles, there is always something good to look forward to. Thank you, Yuka Saso, for being the Filipino people’s silver lining during this challenging time," Sotto said.
Senators Joel Villanueva and Ralph Recto also extended their congratulations to Saso for her victory.
Villanueva said Saso's win, which she achieved through a combination of mental toughness and physical stamina, "should inspire us that we too can overcome the challenges that face us today."
Recto said Saso "inspires us that despite the handicaps and the hazards we face as a people, we too, can stage a comeback."

Saso shook off two early double bogeys, coming back with late birdies at 16 and 17 in a two-over 73 to thrust herself into a playoff with a four-under total of 280 for 72 holes.
Saso matched South Korean Park In-bee as the youngest winners in the championship's history at 19 years, 11 months and 17 days, and earned her LPGA tour membership. --- with a report from Agence France Presse
