The Philippines on Sunday reported 19,271 additional COVID-19 cases as Metro Manila entered its first full week under the new, alert-based quarantine system.
The new COVID-19 infections brought the total active cases to 178,196. The DOH also reported 25,037 new recoveries and 205 deaths.
Overall, a total of 2,366,749 COVID-19 cases have been reported since the pandemic began in March 2020, of which 2,151,765 have recovered and 36,788 died.
Metro Manila was placed under Alert Level 4, similar to MECQ, starting Sept. 16 as the capital region began the pilot run of granular lockdowns and a new COVID-19 alert level system.
Under the government's new guidelines, Alert Level 4 refers to areas wherein case counts are high and/or increasing, with total bed utilization rate and intensive care unit utilization rate at high utilization.
