The Philippines on Wednesday reported 15,592 additional COVID-19 cases as the World Health Organization confirmed that Delta is now the world's most dominant variant.
The new COVID-19 infections brought the total active cases to 162,580. The were also 154 new deaths and 24,059 new recoveries tallied.
Overall, a total of 2,417,419 COVID-19 cases have been reported since the pandemic began in March 2020. There have been total 37,228 deaths and 24,059 recoveries.
Metro Manila is under Alert Level 4 which is expected to last until Sept. 16 and is piloting granular lockdowns.
Under the government's new guidelines, Alert Level 4 refers to areas wherein case counts are high and/or increasing, with total bed utilization rate and intensive care unit utilization rate at high utilization. Mayors can implement lockdowns in high-risk areas to curb the spread of the virus.
