Philippines Logs 18,659 More COVID Cases, Zero Deaths

The Philippines on Friday logged 18,659 additional COVID-19 cases with zero deaths recorded.

The day's infections brought the total active cases to 175,324. There were also 9,088 recoveries.

There have 2,453,328 COVID-19 cumulative cases since the pandemic began, with 2,240,599  recoveries and 37,405 deaths.

Alert Level 4 in all areas of Metro Manila is expected to end on Sept. 30. Surges driven by Delta, now the dominant variant in the country, are keeping high-risk barangays under lockdown.

President Rodrigo Durterte in his weekly address said face shields may be skipped outdoors, but are still required in closed, crowded, and close contact areas. Restrictions on wakes for COVID casualties were also eased to allow families to mourn.
