President-elect Bongbong Marcos has designated outgoing Solicitor General Jose Calida as the next chairman of the Commission on Audit, tasked to ensure the proper use of government funds, his incoming press secretary said.
Calida will take over the COA chairmanship from Rizalina Justol, whose ad interim appointment was bypassed by the Commission on Appointments earlier this month due lack of quorum among the body's members.

As the government's top lawyer, Calida made headlines for initiating the quo warranto petition against former Supreme Court Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno, and for asking the Securities and Exchange Commission to investigate Rappler over supposed violation of the provision against foreign ownership of Philippine media.
He previously served as undersecretary of justice under the administration of former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
Aside from Calida, Press Secretary-designate Trixie Cruz-Angeles also said veteran banker Jose Arnulfo "Wick" Veloso was appointed as president and general manager of the Government Service Insurance System or GSIS.
Veloso previously served as president and chief executive officer of the Philippine National Bank as well as of HSBC Philippines.
Marcos' Cabinet appointees will take their oath before the incoming president in Malacañang after his inauguration at the National Museum on Thursday.
