Nearly 4,000 people from communities surrounding Taal Volcano are staying in evacuation centers, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Tuesday as Alert Level 3 remains raised.
A total of 3,771 individuals or 1,142 families are seeking shelter in 17 government facilities as officials comb through houses for remaining residents, NDRRMC spokesperson Mark Timbal said.
"Tuloy-tuloy po ang ating evacuation activities na pinangununahan ng ating local government units diyan sa high-risk areas," Timbal said.
Another 1,203 individuals who fled their homes have sought shelter in the homes of relatives and friends in other areas, he added.
Taal Volcano belched a 1.5-kilometer plume of water and magma on Saturday morning, with Phivolcs raising alert levels to Alert Level 3, or "magmatic unrest"
Phivolcs on Tuesday said Taal Volcano remains under Alert Level 3 and prohibited entry to the Taal Volcano Island, and the towns of Laurel and Agoncillo in Batangas.
It also warned against possible sudden explosive eruption, ashfall, and volcanic tsunami.
