Tires need not go to the junk yard, thanks to Siklo Pilipinas, which is turning motor scraps into stylish and waterproof bags.
Since its establishment in 2012, the brand has upcycled over 26 tons of discarded tire inner tubes. From backpacks, to sling bags, to belt bags, Siklo sells a wide variety of bags with price ranging from P950 to P7,500.
"My husband thought of it as a really good way to look for a solution sa problema ng basura," said Clarice Ecuacion who owns the business with her husband Lyndon.
"If we look at it in another perspective. Kahit developing country or first world country, lahat talaga gumagamit ng sasakyan. So can you imagine the number of tires running in the road?," she added.
Addressing observations that the upcycled bags could be too expensive, Ecuacion said, "You don't just look at the product itself. You look at what happens behind the scenes."
