Senate President Tito Sotto led President Rodrigo Duterte in the race for vice president, while the chief executive's daughter was still the top choice to succeed her father, according to results of a Pulse Asia survey released Wednesday, two days before the filing of candidacies.

Sotto III led the list, chosen by 25% of 2,400 respondents in the Sept. 6 to 11 poll, overtaking Duterte, who ranked first in the previous survey and polled 15% in September.

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio again topped the list of preferred presidential candidates followed by former Sen. Bongbong Marcos (15%), Manila Mayor Isko Moreno (13%), and Sen. Manny Pacquiao (12%), statisticially tied for second place, because the difference among their scores falls within the margin of error.

Vice President Leni Robredo came in third place, chosen by 8% of the respondents, statistically tying with Sen. Panfilo Lacson, at 6%.

For senators, 15 out of the 53 individuals included in the list have a statistical chance of winning, with broadcaster Raffy Tulfo (55.2%) and Taguig-Pateros Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano (53.6%) topping the list.

They were followed by Sorsogon Gov. Francis Escudero, Deputy Speaker Loren Legarda sharing the third and fourth spot.

Duterte-Carpio earlier said she would not seek the presidency to honor an agreement between her and her father that only one of them would run for a national post next year.

Her camp eventually said that she would instead seek reelection as Davao City mayor.

The filing of certificates of candidacy for the 2022 elections is from Oct. 1 to 8.
