Tourists Can Still Go to Baguio Even Under GCQ

There's no need to cancel that Baguio trip this February as the country's COVID-19 pandemic response task force allowed the city to continue receiving tourists even if it is under general community quarantine, Malacañang said Friday.

The government's inter-agency task force approved the request of  Baguio City to continue to accept tourists, said Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque. Baguio, part of the Cordillera Administrative Region, is under GCQ until the end of February.

"Subject pa rin po ito sa strict health protocols at contact tracing measures," Roque said.

Leisure travel is supposedly limited for areas under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) or the lowest form of quarantine in the country.

Baguio is known for its annual Panagbenga Festival which occurs every February.

But due to COVID-19 restrictions and the threat of a more contagious variant, the city's local government and festival organizers postponed the event to March.
