What do you do when you're a public servant and Manny Pacquiao hands you money out of nowhere? This police officer from Cavite would like to set an example: use it to buy relief goods in order to help those who need it more.
Corporal Carlo Romero only meant to ask for a photo with the boxing champ and senator during a relief operation for typhoon victims in Dasmariñas. He was caught off guard when the Senator suddenly handed him a wad of cash amounting to P8,000.
He then realized that as someone who had a stable job and more than enough means to survive the pandemic, it wasn't right for him to receive such amount over the thousands of others who actually went to event hoping to get cash relief.
Carlos penned an open letter to Senator Pacquiao on Facebook sharing how he used the money instead. His post went viral with over 6.6k likes and 1.3k shares.
"Gusto ko lang malaman ni Sir Manny na hindi sa maling tao napunta yung perang binigay niya. Parang hindi karapat-dapat sakin [yung pera] kasi yung iba ang daming pumila dun, halos thousands yung tao. Sila yung mahihirap talaga sa Dasma," he said.
