Broadcaster Raffy Tulfo on Monday said he wanted to deliver major solutions, instead of band-aid fixes to laborers' woes should he get elected senator, as he promised to bring his brand of justice to lawmaking.
Tulfo hosts an eponymous program on TV and social media which that is known for delivering swift justice to its audiences. Hesaid his encounters with laborers who have been wronged by their employees made him decide to run for senator.
While he could help address their concerns through his program, he said the problem keeps repeating with a different set of employers and laborers.
"I want to break that cycle. Kasi ang nagagawa ko, I'm giving band-aid solution. Ang gusto ko yung major solution to a problem. So to fix a problem in the government, someone has to go in the government para ma-fix yan," Tulfo told ANC.
"Simple lang naman ang Tulfo brand of justice. Nagiging matapang ako kapag may nakikita akong naaapi.... So I'll make sure kapag ako ay nasa Senado, yung mga mahihirap nating kababayan ay hindi madedehado sa batas," he said.
Tulfo said he could only do so much as a private citizen in helping laborers address their problems, so he believes being a senator could help him provide concrete solutions to their concerns.
"When I get there sa Senate, I'll pass legislation to level the playing field para itong mahihirap nating kababayan, they will have a better fighting chance pagdating sa batas," he said.
One measure that he would push for is one that would penalize employers for giving unfair compensation to their employees.
"With this legislation na tinatawag kong waged theft, kapag amo ka, ibalik mo yung pera ng ninakawan mong empleyado tapos meron kang kasong waged theft," he said.
"Yung DOLE labor code plus yung payslip, [kapag] hindi nagkatugma, waged theft ka. Ibig sabihin ninanakawan mo yung iyong empleyado," he added.
Tulfo topped the list of preferred senatorial candidates in the recent Pulse Asia and Social Weather Stations surveys conducted last month.
