Former President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III did his parents and the Filipino people proud, former Sen. Mar Roxas said Thursday, as he honored his friend and running mate in the 2010 elections.
"You did all you could and left things so much better than how you found them. Our country moved up and was respected all over the world. It's all anyone can ask," Roxas addressed the Aquino.
"We are proud of you as would be your mom and dad," he added as he thanked the former president.
Noynoy is the only son of Sen. Ninoy Aquino and former President Corazon Aquino. The two were instrumental in restoring the country's democracy after the Marcos regime.
In 2010, Roxas was supposed to run for president under the Liberal Party, but he withdrew his candidacy to make way for Aquino.
Aquino would later appoint Roxas as secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government during his presidency. He also supported Roxas' presidential run in 2016 and senatorial candidacy in 2019.
