Manila Mayor Isko Moreno is the Filipino everyman in his new advertisement that featured his rags-to-riches success story, telling the public that he's just like them -- a few weeks before the filing of candidacies for the 2022 national elections.
The commercial shows Moreno telling the public "Ako kayo, hindi sumusuko" and featured the working class saying: "Ako si Isko" and "Tayo si Isko." His vice mayor, Honey Lacuña, was also included in the ad.
Moreno's ad also showed snippets of his commencement speech to graduates of the Emilio Aguinaldo College in 2019 where he shared how his mindset helped him rise from poverty, and overcome criticism of his sexy film past.
"Akalain mo, kasalanan na maging cute," Moreno said. "Keep on trying, wala naman mawawala sa atin."
Moreno is among frontrunners in pre-election surveys on President Rodrigo Duterte's potential successors but has yet to formally announce his 2022 election plans. His partymates in Aksyon Demokratiko had said they were ready to support him should he push through with running for president next year.
On Monday, the Manila mayor confirmed meeting with Vice President Leni Robredo and Sen. Manny Pacquiao as the opposition works to unite itself for a single presidential candidate.
Pacquiao had announced plans to run for president while Robredo remains undecided.
The filing of certificates of candidacy for the May 2022 elections is set for Oct. 1 to 8.
