1.15 Million More Doses of AstraZeneca Vaccine Arrive in Philippines

Another 1.15 million doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine arrived in Manila on Friday, boosting the country's supply of jabs.

The vaccines are part of the procured jabs by the private sector through a tripartite deal involving the national government.

“We need a fast and almost perfect rollout and the private sector, with the arrival of these initial doses from AstraZeneca, can now do that for its employees,”  Presidential Adviser for Entrepreneurship Joey Concepcion said in a statement.

Last month, Concepcion said he was informed by COVID-19 vaccine czar Sec. Carlito Galvez Jr. that the private sector no longer needs to donate some of the AstraZeneca jabs they procured to the government.

Concepcion had said that businessmen want inoculation to be focused in major urban hubs--Metro Manila, Pampanga, Bulacan, Laguna, Cavite, Rizal, Cebu, and Davao--to revive the economy.

Some 50 million Filipinos should be vaccinated against COVID-19 by November this year for the government to achieve its target of "population protection."
