Burger King Brings Plant-Based Whopper to the Philippines

Burger King is leading the fast-food foray into plant-based meals in the Philippines with its new meatless burger as it seeks to cater to the growing number of people who no longer eat meat.

The U.S. fast food chain, operated in the Philippines by Jollibee, announced Monday the latest addition to its menu: the Plant-Based Whopper.

The meatless burger is initially available in Burger King outlets in Luzon and will soon be added to menus nationwide, it said.

Burger King initially launched the plant-based Whopper in the U.S. in 2019. It's larger rival McDonald's earlier this month also announced that  it was launching a new plant-based burger named the "McPlant."

Locally, other international brands have also introduced plant-based foods and drinks. Starbucks, for instance, offers oat milk, almond milk, and soy milk as plant-based alternatives to cow's milk.
