Millions of Filipinos will have to reschedule their visits to the cemetery this coming day of the dead. Malacañang said Friday all cemeteries, memorial parks and columbariums will be closed from Oct. 29 to Nov. 4.

The announcement from Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque covers the entire country though local governments like the cities of Manila and San Juan have announced cemetery closures earlier. San Juan also banned trick-or-treating this year.

"Lahat ng mga pribado at pampublikong mga sementeryo at memorial parks ay isasara sa mga bisita mula Oct. 29 hanggang Nov. 4, 2020 (All private and public cemeteries and memorial parks will be closed to visitors from Oct. 29 to Nov. 4)," Roque told reporters.

"Pwede naman po tayo dumalaw bago isara at matapos isara ang mga sementeryo (We can visit before or after the cemeteries are closed)," he said.

Millions in the predominantly Catholic Philippines throng cemeteries on Nov. 1 and 2 to offer candles, flowers and prayers to their dead.
