Defense Sec. Delfin Lorenzana on Tuesday thanked Manila Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna for catching him when he fainted during a flag-raising ceremony over the weekend, saving him from serious injury.

The 73-year-old Lorenzana collapsed during the Independence Day rites at Luneta last Sunday and had Lacuna not caught his back, his head would have crashed directly onto the parched pavement.

"Do you believe in miracles? I do. Last Sunday, Mayor-elect Doktora Honey Lacuna of Manila saved me from a possible life-altering injury when I fainted due to the heat and exhaustion. Thank you again, Mayor Honey, for being at the right place, at the right time!" Lorenzana said.

Lorenzana blamed the heat and exhaustion from his recent participation at the regional Shangri-la Security Dialogue for his fainting episode. He sustained no serious injuries.
