Task Force to Probe Corruption Allegations in DPWH, Says Sec Villar

This comes after the president called out employees for alleged corruption.

The department handling the country's major roadworks created an anti-graft task force following President Rodrigo Duterte's orders to crack down on the corruption in the agency.

A five-member task force will lead the inquiry, based on an order from Public Works Sec. Mark Villar. It will recommend appropriate action when warranted against erring officials.

“This is not only in line with President Rodrigo R. Duterte’s stringent policy towards a clean government but also aimed at providing quality infrastructure as DPWH is one of the lead agencies steering the "Build, Build, Build" program,” Villar said.

The TAG is part of the DPWH's efforts to curb corruption and other anomalous activities within the department. At present, the DPWH implements required audits, geotagged photo-monitoring of projects before implementation and upon mobilization, along with monthly progress reports.

The bidding and contractor profiles are monitored online to decrease human intervention and the probability of corruption. Contractors with bad track records are also blacklisted from partaking in DPWH projects.
